China will be ready to take Taiwan by 2027

In March 2021 testimony to the Senate Armed Services Committee, Adm. Philip S. Davidson, commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, warned: "The threat is manifest during this decade. In fact, in the next six years." It was the first time a senior U.S. military official told Congress that the armed services believed President Xi Jinping wanted his army ready to take Taiwan by 2027. Many defense planners remain skeptical such a move could happen that quickly. Treasury Secretary Bessent later called Taiwan chips "the single biggest point of single failure" for the world economy at Davos 2026.
